Emin Huseynov is a well-known Azerbaijani journalist and human rights defender. For the past 20 years, he has been specializing in protecting human rights and exposing Azerbaijan's high-ranking corrupt officials and their families. For his criticism of the Azerbaijani authorities, he was systematically subjected to repression by the ruling regime. Hiding from persecution, he spent about 10 months (from 18 August 2014 to 12 June 2015) at the Swiss Embassy in the capital of Azerbaijan, after which he was transported by the Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs from Azerbaijan to Switzerland, where he lives and works to this day in exile. The day after his evacuation from Azerbaijan to Switzerland, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev illegally, for political revenge, deprived Emin Huseynov of his citizenship, making him a stateless person
